Upon his death in 2014, Cornish left almost 300 unseen sketchbooks. He suggested ‘they should be available for the public to view, to teach people to look at things’. By prolifically sketching bar scenes, street scenes and men at work in the pit, Cornish recorded a fascinating slice of County Durham life.

Looking for something to work on/think about during the 6 week break?
We can do no better than explore this video (23min - the actual painting took him 3 hours).
Paul Clark’s video "How to Paint a Seascape in Watercolour - on a Holiday in Ibiza."
I do recommend viewing it a few times before attempting a similar subject. So much is covered. I started to make some notes during the demo.
Look out for his expert use of a range of colours, and particularly his approach to painting the rocks (using a plastic card).
I also like his finishing touches, venturing into mixed media.
