TRY AN ABSTRACT!!
1
Format: SQUARE
- Make a thumbnail sketch (no bigger than 2" x 2" or 15mm x 15mm)
- Draw 2 parallel lines - make three rectangles (not the same size)
- Draw (anywhere of your own choosing) a small three sided shape (this will stay white)
- Enclose this shape with a larger shape (not too large) and with a pencil make it a dark area (except for the three sided shape.
- With a pencil shade in all the other areas in tones that please you.
When you are happy with your design select a larger piece of watercolour paper
- Draw a large square
- Pencil in the shapes from your thumbnail sketch
- Vary your tones for each area - making the shape surrounding the three sided shape the darkest.
- Consider the use of different textures/warm or cool areas
- Make one of the areas a neutral colour
- The other two rectangles - your choice of colour(s) - make them similar but distinct from each other
- Finally - Look at the dark area - behind it fill in a rectangular shape (about half the size of the full larger rectangles) and make that a darker tone - as dark as you wish. Perhaps leave some lighter areas within that space.
